Robby, say Hi to Ron from Richard Wilkens. I haven't talked to Ron for years, I used to stay at his place when I was volunteering at Ely.
As for Mr. Knoob, I'm one of the people who spent a very late night back in the 80's with Earl, Ron Taylor, and several other people putting a patch on one of the grates on #40 so it could run the next day. As a "thank you" I was allowed to fire the engine the next day from Ely up to Ruth, pre Keystone Wye days. As somebody who lives near Seattle between the elevation at Ely and the work I was sucking wind pretty good. We stayed up late that Saturday night so Earl could run the #40 instead of the diesel. It was worth it !!!
