I've had that problem too, however in one case I received an e-mail alert for the book from a bookstore here in Denver. Rather than bother with buying online I simply drove over there. It had been sold by the time I got there.
In some cases, maybe most, when the book is listed but not available it's just that the inventory with ABE hasn't been updated.
At any rate when there are multiple listings, surely one is available.
