Curt,
I was in Chama & Antonito last weekend and traveled the highway in between points. The aspens were about 50% changed along the Conejos River and on the north side of La Manga Pass at that time. Up in the high country around Los Pinos meadow and Cumbres Pass, the aspens are about 30% changed. Down in the Chama Valley things were just starting to turn.
Let me add, the temperature in Chama this past Sunday morning was 29 deg. and there was evident frost. Thunderstorms were in the region Saturday and it rained off & on in Chama in the afternoon. These same storms left a light dusting of snow in the high country which was disappearing by early morning. Point being, a frost or blast of cold air tends to accelerate the aspens putting on their fall coat.
