Transporting sheep

March 02, 2005 08:51AM
I talked to a gentleman, about 85 years old, who grew up in the Montrose area and who’s father raised sheep. He remembers his father rounding up sheep, shipping them on the D&RGW, and accompanying them in the caboose.
One year, when he was about, 12 years old, he went along for the ride. On this trip the caboose derailed and the stove was knocked over killing another occupant of the caboose. He says that he still remembers that event in great detail.
