Linn,
Thanks for the reply.
Pretty much what I expected. I restore old cars and know the drill. I also spent the last 20 years building homes. A million+ dollars builds one heck of a house, you know? All this talk about C&S No.9 and costs, I was trying to picture it in MY shop and what my plan of attack would be. In all the time the CHS has let it sit, it might well be done and running, but the costs, like a new set of tires, is something that eludes me. Comparing MY hobby wage (zero) with real world (business) costs is apples and oranges.
When I see a locomotive in motion, I see a graceful choreography of irony. All these harsh metal parts moving in fluid motion. Multiply by some high mountain country and the demanding tasks of the crews, and the whole dance is a marvel to behold.
Boiling it down to the science of nuts and bolts, steam chests and valve timing fascinates me. I would love to hear more!
Thanks again!
