Some years back in a plan invigorate the depressed economy of the county I live in and some others our Ore. Gov. at that time concieved a plan to greatly improve the highways leading to and from these areas. Sort of a "build it and they will come" kind of thing. There was a very scenic corider with narrow highway on a rock ledge that was pretty crooked comming into this area. It added a little mytique I think because you had to travel this brief strectch to reach the valley. The grand plan blasted away thousands of tons of moss covered basalt cliffs above the highway to achieve a time saving of about 2 min. per vehicle by one truckers estimate, at some astronomical over bugit cost. One of my freinds that I occasionally tip a few with coined a phrase for his prefered version of the highway plan: "Highway Ruralification" which would peel up a bunch of that nasty asphalt, reclaim the land under the interstate highway system back to a natural state, and force us all to slow down a bit so we can enjoy the scenery that ought to be around us.
