An oldtime retired D&RGW engineer (died in 81), told me that the crews like to do their business from the train. They would make yellow snow from the cab deck or the rear caboose platform. They would do number 2 in a shovel and dispose of it off to the side. The section gangs that accompanied the rotary or flanger crews did not like that at all as they sometimes had to get out to shovel or to blast rocks and debris.
I am debating whether to include this in the snow fighting book I am writing.
