What is needed is a supercharged, heavy diesel that can move work trains up the pass. 19 plain is not heavy enough for much of the work train service. With 3 engines, they will be in a lot better shape than with 2, but will still have to be careful about boiler washes, etc. I personally think that 497 should remain out of service until track upgrades have been made. In her last 2-3 years, she seemed to be a shop queen because of derailments, etc. At this point, it seems pretty likely that 463 will follow 489 through the shop, and then a call can be made about what to work on next.
