Rail Weight for the CTS

November 27, 2004 05:39PM
It's been brought to my attention that the "Friends" want to install trackage into the CRF and they have been told that they will be required to use heavier rail that what they have proposed. Also, I understand that it makes a difference which way the switch is aligned as most trains go counterclockwise around the look.
My question, what weight rail will the C & TS use when they actually begin upgrading their right-of-way and will all rail be the same for main line, sidings, etc. I know cost will be a factor so I also wonder what the cost differences will be on the various weight rail.
Also, what are the consequences of a locomotive going into a switch on a curve such as the loop.
