Goose lights

Geese spent "a lot of time going backward". Motormen kept their speed down to where they could stop short of the next obstruction. If not removable with muscle or the always ready shovels, into reverse they would go to the last telephone. Sometimes they found they were between slides.
The last few miles of my southbound 1949 trip was riding shotgun in an RGS truck that burned more oil than gasoline. I'll let you visualize the road. It was raining so hard that I didn't see much of it. The driver was younger than I was.
But the US Mail got thru!!!
Considering how much traffic there was on thr RGS, "tail-lights" really weren't necessary. Real good backup lights were necessary.
