There's quite a few more Hawaiian lokies in steam than the #5!
Hawaii Railway #5 is indeed on the East Coast in Kent, Connecticut...about 50 minutes from where I live. I visited it last month; it's leased to the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association by its owner, Dr. Richard May, in California.
The "Kahuku" (ex-Kahuku Plantation #1) is operational at the Roaring Camp & Big Trees in Felton, California; restored by Phil Reader, Tom Shreve, and crews after being out of service as a pile of parts for nearly 20 years. It returned to regular service in 2001, if I remember correctly.
Ex-Waimanalo #2 "Pokaa", despite its heavy rebuilding, is operational in San Gabriel, CA at the Grizzly Flats Railroad; though Ward Kimball passed and she hasn't run in some time.
George Thagard in Southern CA also has Waimanalo #4 (now 'Deanna'), which he runs on a private line, and up at Ardenwood at the SPCRR narrow gauge museum in Newark (Fremont), California.
The Kahului RR "Claus Spreckles" is in operational condition at the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum in Maui, as are three locomotives at Grove Farm in Lihue (Kauai), not far from where the Kauai Kilohana operation will supposedly be in coming years.
The 4-6-0 at the LK&P ran in the 50s and 60s at Travel Town in Los Angeles with the ex-OR&L coaches; Walt Disney was a frequent visitor and based his 'Retlaw One' coaches on designs such as these, which he inspected personally. The Retlaw coaches are at the Pacific Coast NG Railroad at Santa Margarita Ranch (San Luis Obispo area), California.
And yes, KRR #12 is supposedly operational, or close to it...though troublesome due to the boiler put on it in the 80s so I hear.
Keep Steaming,
