True Taylor. When it was taken off the U.P. 2-10-2 #5020 in Denver in 1956 or '57 it had gloss paint on it, and before I sand blasted it, it had gloss paint on it.
But it was all chipped and rusted underneith. It looks ALOT better than it did, and when i'm done with the valve it will be in a lot better shape too. I think all this work will be worth it.
In that shot of 5020 it easily couldn't of had our whistle on there as they constantly swapped the whistles around.
My dad and I have two photos that Jim Ehernberger gave to us, along with the whistle (we purchased it from him) that were taken right before the engine was retired, but the whistle isn't very visible. It has a shop made lever and we were trying to see if we could see the lever in the photos...
