Hi William,
Sure appreciated your Colorado pictures. I especially enjoyed the pictures inside the Tacoma Power Plant. Believe it or not I work, or have worked, on electrical equipment very similar and some even larger. It looks to be well maintained, do you know if it is still in service? I like that DC exciter generator with the open communtator housing (Upper right corner just above the right bearing pedestal.) When running, you can lift the oil slinger ring inspection hole plugs on the bearing pedestals and look inside to see if the slinger rings are turning and distributing bearing lube oil properly. The plugs have little round balls on top and have a chain underneath with a ball bearing attached that plugs the inner hole to keep foreign crap out of the bearing oil. Thats also where oil is added if needed (although as clean as it is around the bearing pedestals I doubt if they leak at all.)
I recognize many more things in the pictures, but I am sure that's more info than you really wanted to know and this getting about 450 feet away from the NG (across the Animas River that is).
V-e-t-ty eenteresting.
