I have noted that this is a fairly common trait among logging engines. Some WSL engines have their generators on the running boards. Yreka Western 19 also has a front mounted generator. Most saddle tankers had the dynamo on top of the smokebox as well. As I said, logging engines seem to have more variety as far as dynamo placement.
