I once saw the guys putting firebrick into Canadian National 6060, while I volunteered up there for the last week of their restoration in 1986(In Jasper). There was a father and son team doing the brickwork, and a have a couple of video shots looking at them inside through the firebox door. Also saw them using the table band saw to cut the brick to the sizes they needed for corners and so forth.
On my 1999 visit, I got to watch the engineer instruct a member of their team in how to properly light-off a fire in the 6060, then got a little video of the fire. It was interesting, being right there. They did take some precautions and had me stand in the gangway for safety. I still prefer coal-burners though by far. I remember shooting steam in Spain in 1972, and stepping in puddles of slimy oil everywhere around the roundhouses. Yucky stuff! Still it was steam though!
