I'm not involved with the GLR but I can say in terms of storage at Golden that I heard the crews of both operations have been working on adequate storage tracks.
There's an enginehouse at Golden with 5-stalls. The #346, and the 318 (being restored) are in it or will be in it when it returns. 3 stalls, given they are not 'ocupado', could hold the #12, 14, and 40.
Today I was watching an old video showing much Colorado NG in the 80s. I was getting ticked off because the music and narraration went right over the whistles...and to me one of the best things about railroad movies is that it captures the sounds of the locomotives. Of interest to me was the #71 running in Central City with two open cars. The route looked just like the pictures I've seen of the #14 up on that line when the Ashbys ran it. Too bad that line is gone, and the 71 is a mess. Circa 1989 or so when this was made, Central City looked pretty nice. Since the gambling, etc, I have no idea what it looks like over there. Looked very similar (as said before) to Virginia City, Nevada only the tracks were ABOVE, not below the city.
Also featured was the 497 on the Durango & Silverton sans spark arrestor, and the GTL #40. There was also a very short 346 segment, among other things. Really the heyday of steam; since the 71, V&T #29, etc. have gone out of steam since.
