Yeah that's a neat little museum. The 814 doesn't have the wrong tender at all...but I know what you mean. FEF-1's are my favoites because of the tenders. The UP put that tender behind it. Probably because 814's original tank was used for the turbines coming along. The Water Tenders that the UP Steam guys use today ARE FEF-1 tanks.
I saw them move the 814 from the park to the museum. It was pretty amazing. Something that big and heavy on a trailer, moving down the street!
I think Omaha wants them....they just don't know what to do with them yet, atleast I think that's what it is. They may sit where they are for 20 years. They obviously are not at the top of the list for those people. I'd hate to drive to Council Bluffs (aka "Council Tucky") to see the Big Boy.
The UP Steam Program might figure something out for them, they are the ones who came down to move them. The 4023 was popping and squeaking the entire time. My dad got to see them move it...but I didn't because my dad wouldn't let me miss ONE day of school to see it. What a shame.
