A correction:
The White Pass & Yukon Route NEVER owned the 10 & 14. The U.S. Army did. However, they were the first of the Army locomotives to show up in Skagway, AK in August of 1942. They also were the only USA locomotives to be painted "WP&YR". I believe that this was due to a miscommunication and the shop crew didn't know that they were Army engines, yet. And apparently, the Army didn't know they were theirs either, at least at first, as in the first draft of the lease agreement they were listed as WP&YR property - but this was later changed. The Army took control of the WP&YR on October 1, 1942.
The fact remains that they were not owned by the White Pass, just to clarify.
