Or MP 446.2 subdivision 12 to more exact.
I recognize Myron Henry (Conductor), Amos Cordova (Agent), and Jack Renfrow (Assistant Trainmaster/Assistant Roadmaster). If you ever worked for a railroad this scene would look very familiar. And of course this is what they were looking at.
The 483 was headed for Chama with a short train, since the Farmington branch was closed to replace a soft fill. Five boxcars of Weidman lumber was the only traffic to move out of Durango. The slipout would delay the train 24 hours, while about four loads of slag were dumped into the hole. The next day 487 took the train through to Chama, picking up some more lumber loads at the mill just east of Juanita and adding and setting out empties and MOW loads along the way.
September 14, 1965. Just another day on the ng.
Thanks to Jimmy Blouch, Ray Loose, and a post by Fritz Klinke for info that helped me put together the caption info above, which I think is more or less correct.
