Hey Ed,
The devil is in the details! The RGS really did run their equipment past the point of wearing out. It's a well known fact that they hid #20 for the last few years from the ICC inspector, because they knew it would fail. The boiler has a big dent from where it rolled over on Cima Summit with the 40. Even if you look at 42 now, you can see evidence of RGS patches. The tender trucks, for example, are totally different. The appearance of 42 and 41 today, are a testament to the skills for the Knott's and D&S shop crews.
