These locos must accumulate a lot of char because they all have what amounts to a slide to facilitate shoveling the crud out of the smokebox. Using one of your pics to illustrate this Dave, with the "slide" circled in red - and Todd's album has a couple photos of them actually doing this.



And great shot as well Dave, showing the bar arrangement for those who want to hang their legs out of the windows. The bars look shiny so they sure must get a lot of use
