Yes, McGill is a must see while in the area! It's a classic company town, still full of the small workers houses and a truly impressive "managers row" - really a circle - where the "fancy folk" got to live. My son accompanied me for the 2020 winter shoot, and we found a really interesting AirBnB to stay in there - one of the workers homes which had been nicely refurbished in a cowboy theme. It left us a bit further from East Ely than a typical Ely stay, but we really enjoyed getting to hang out in McGill and get a better feel for the place.
That year also featured a truly epic trip home to the front range of Colorado - a classic example of how difficult it can be dodging winter weather in the inter-mountain west and how far away from everything Ely is. We eventually made it, but only after many route changes and a whole lot of white knuckle driving.
