Since this thread is entitled "Thank you GLR" I hope you don't mind me adding my thanks as well. My family was able to make the photo run last month (You remember, the day that the mountain nearly washed out I-70) and we had a fantastic time!
It was special for me and my father as he brought me and my sister to ride this line back in 1975 for my very first steam engine ride (it was a Shay I'm pretty sure but I'll have to get out the pictures to see which one) and I was able to return the favor by bringing him up to ride (for the very last time as it turns out aparently.)
My father is suffering from an Alzheimers like condition (brought on by the powerful painkillers that he needs for a knee replacement gone bad) and he doesn't remember many details from things that happen from day to day but he turned to me with a big grin on his face and said, "This I'll remember!" I talked to him via phone this last weekend and he DOES remember his trip on the GLR!
To everybody connected with the Georgetown Loop Railroad and especially the Ashby's I would simply like to say, "Thank you." You made it possible for me to give my father a very precious gift.....one that he will remember.
