I was with Don Shank, my brother and nephew on the June trip to the Creede branch and was involved in the first weekend of clearing. Since then most of the line has been cleared, except for some VERY large bolders dropped on the track from highway maintenance.
It is a beautiful area and the train ride will be very different from the D&S or CTS. I think it will be a boon to all the railroads in the area. Someone drew me a parallel in the form of a question as to why auto dealerships go to a Auto Parks with other dealerships. Should hurt the sales, but doesn't because you get MORE people. Imagine 3 railroads in the same area, with national and worldwide advertising. More draw. With only 21 miles of track, this RR can be ridden in a morning and off to Chama or Durango for the next day. Or stay and raft, fish, hike, sit on your duff or what.
I am going back in the Spring for a full week of work on the RR and then sit back for another week and relax.
Check out the RR web page and you can see the attraction.
