While I too like to see the steam rotary 'do it's thing' the Volvo can easily "derail*" itself to clear an area wider than the plow itself (where appropriate) and then once that it is done can get back to the main task of clearing the track by "re-railing*" itself without jacks, blocks etc. For instance, the Volvo could clear access to a switchstand, something the steam rotary wouldn't be very good at.



*And yes, I do understand that the Volvo is not a "hi-rail" machine and doesn't run on the rails.
