The homebuilt 2-6-2 at Rome Village was run in such a manner that all the axles were welded to what were the bearings. The damage was so severe that it was said the engine was never repairable without a new frame and wheelset being built under it. This was the word of many years ago, and regardless of its good looks, has no prospects of being repaired.
Unity, Maine was the worst encounter I ever had on any tourist railroad, giving one nasty hell for taking photos of the engine on the turntable from 50' away, like one was going to fall into the pit.
They also stopped a train when a passenger had his head out a open window to take a photo, although there were no close clearances on the wooded line. Just wanted to harrass the fans.
