Mea Culpa -
It was a
dark and stormy night wet and dreary afternoon, and after Bosco & Otis brought me home after a long walk in the rain I must have had one too many hot Manzanitas,* which further fogged my already fading memory.
It was #49
3 in one of Ernie's photos from early October that had the plow, not #497, so it must be #487 in the background since the tender behind plow-wearing #493 dominates the left foreground. I have corrected my earlier post accordingly
. . .
Here's a b&w version of Ernie's photo of #493 rounding the curve west of m.p. 305 on 10/02/67 that I mis-remembered as being #497

. . . and one of my own from about five weeks earlier showing #497 was NOT wearing a plow that year as she spotted some loads at the coaling tower in Chama

* The Manzanita – which may or may not be my own creation – consists of six or more ounces of spiced cider plus two or more ounces of tequila. Cold Manzanitas are very refreshing on a hot day, and hot Manzanitas are very warming on a cold day.
