We're coming out of what I think is the second consecutive La Nina year, which means the western rains over the winter are going to the Pacific NW instead of further south as they do in an El Nino pattern. I've read we're going through a La Nina
summer and possibly have yet
another La Nina winter this coming year as well.
On behalf of everyone in the Pacific NW, we're just fine with a few El Nino years for a while! I'm sick of it feeling like early spring in June with all the rains and lower temps, with the threat of not having a 'summer' in the classical sense. I know that the folks on the southwest desperately need that rain.
Last September we drove down to see my wife's parents in Phoenix and what I saw along the way scared me, with Lake Shasta being insanely low. Those weather patterns affect CO/NM as well.
Give 'em the rain, we can cope without it for a while!
