Who says oil burners can’t smoke? The one on the left is an oil burner, and is smoking it up for the cameras when needed, but at the expense of wasted fuel. The one on the right is an oil burner to, but let’s admit, this shot wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago if it was a coal burner with the locomotive under a heavy load like it was that day. The fireman is burning a proper clean stack here as it should be.
