I met Mr. Lynton back in 1969 . He was watching the train with his wife at Hermosa , who did most of the talking . He worked for years on the Rio Grande Southern . Pinky had quite a reputation as a skilled fireman . He was able to transfer over the the D&RGW board in 1951 , one of only two guys I know of from the RGS who did (a fellow named Rasmussen marked up on the Grand Junction board). Pinky did fine with the big engines , and was much appreciated , since he knew his way around the equipment . He retired in the late 1950s or early 60s when he had enough months to get Railroad Retirement . Like a lot of old-time enginemen , Pinky was a slight man .
