I was a bit surprised to see Pinky shown as an engineer. When I talked with Pinky in the early 60's he indicated he didn't like running the "big" engines on the DRGW and preferred firing. I have a picture of him taking water at Bondad in 1960 (see below), and that was normally the fireman's chore. I had assumed that he arranged to get called (and paid) as a fireman. In thinking about it perhaps it is more logical that he took the engineer's call and simply let the fireman run, as long as he had a qualified fireman. I would guess that most fireman would jump at the chance not to have to shovel coal. Not a big deal, but I'd be curious if any readers know more about Pinky's career. He was a real gentleman of the old school, and I have a letter from him penned in an elegant style that you don't see much of anymore.
