Hello John!
Welcome to the forum!
This is a fun little railroad - I have explored as much of it as possible, seeing as how Silver City used to be my hometown. Much of it is wiped out by private land and modern development, however it can be hiked around Boston Hill and through the Pinos Altos mountains. Most of the accessible portions are 2-track Jeep road or ATV trail. Almost nothing left to suggest it was a railroad, unless you know it used to be a railroad.
Bruce has posted good information. Duane Ericson's "Silver City Narrow Gauge" is a good yet fairly short book.
In general, the railroad had much greater hopes than it ever could have achieved - a common theme among many western US mining ventures.
