Apologies if this has been discussed to death in some other thread, but what is the reason why the 486 currently sits in the museum? I thought that the K-36 was the loco type that the D&SNGRR preferred, and in fact, a few years ago they attempted to negotiate with the C&TS for the derelict 483. So why is a K-36 with (theoretically) some service time left on her parked? Has she run out of or short on service days? Does she have other, non-boiler issues that need repair? Or is it simply that with 493 now in service, the line has plenty of power and is just parking the engine with the most gremlins. Maybe none of the above? It just seemed odd.
Thanks!
