101, 103, and 107 are all in service. 106 is still partially disassembled for shipping but will also be returned to service when time permits. No. 1 will be retained as a Durango shop switcher and the other industrial switch engines will be sold. 1203 is having its control system upgraded so that it loads properly and will be MU-able with the other engines. 1201 and 1202 are both sitting on shop trucks.
With all the diesels in the mix now, one might wonder about the future of steam power on the D&S. Steam will continue to be the primary passenger power and there are no plans to reduce the steam fleet. 481 is still coal fired and will be the winter power along with 482 when its conversion to oil is completed. 473 and 476 will receive running gear and driver work this winter and 476 will begin the conversion to oil fuel after 482 is completed. 480 will receive running gear work. 493 will receive running gear and driver work along with some improvements to the fire pan. We plan to have 5 oil burning steam locomotives in service next summer.
