Re: "Dread 107" - when did the Denver & Rio Grande actually scrap the locomotive?

Colorado Museum Publication “Locomotives of the Rio Grande”, indicates dismantled 8-3-1898.
That is most likely the date it was removed from the books.
All changes to property and equipment required approval by management. The changes could include purchase land, sell land, lease land, purchase new equipment, make alterations to equipment, rebuild equipment, dismantle and/or retire equipment, sell equipment, lease equipment.
During years prior to 1900 at one point these documents were referred to as IBs,(improvement blanks) and at one point AIs, (authority for improvement) During the early 1900s they became known as AFEs.
These documents would specify what action was to be taken.
In the case of dismantling locomotives exact numbers would be recorded. That could be any number of locomotives
from 1 to 10, 20 or whatever.
The date each locomotive was dismantled would be recorded in that document. After the last locomotive was dismantled that document would be closed and that date used as being removed from the books.
There would be very little information available as to the actual date of dismantling.
Though I do know of one location where research could be done.
