Making your point, that 4-4-0 behind the #71 is a class 37, which were out of service on the D&RG by the late 1880's. I get the impression that "dismantled" in D&RG records means something more akin to an engine being reduced to a parts source rather than necessarily being wholly scrapped at the given date.
