Sometimes it can be handy to have a separate eccentric for each direction. I've read many historic accounts of crews bringing in engines and trains after losing at least one eccentric, or sometimes an entire side. It was something of a mark of pride to always make it back. Certainly didn't expect to read of an engine running over the road in such a manner in the 21st century. I regard such mechanical situations as part of the interest in that type of technology.
