This 49 car freight hauled a lot of scoria (volcanic cinders) and coal ash/cinders for ballast work. The consist was made up of 498, 10 cars scoria, 5 box, 2 coal ash, 488, 4 coal ash, 9 pipe, 12 box,
2 large diameter pipe, 2 box, 1 flat equipment, 1 box, caboose, as seen here approaching the Los Pinos siding.
498 set out 8 cars of scoria on the Los Pinos siding. 484 retrieved them after the next morning's Cumbres turn.
2 cars of scoria and the 6 cars of ash/cinders continued on. If I remember correctly, these were dumped west of Chama. Note the plastic lining in the 6 cars hauling cinders/ash.
By the time 492 and 498 took the freight west of Gato, the 16 cars of ballast had been left behind
