Doug - your reference to the Loessnitzgrundbahn was pretty close, but not exactly. My views are from the nearby Weisseritztalbahn, which runs 16.1 miles from Freital-Hainsberg to Kipsdorf. Much of the route follows the Weisseritz river, and climbs 1,155 feet with some sections of 3.5 percent grade. Both are near Dresden and use 2-10-2Ts in regular service although other classes are available. A feature not available on the DSNG or the C&TS is that for about $ 3 you can take your dog and for another 3 bucks your bike can ride in the baggage car.

For the first half mile or so the narrow gauge parallels the standard gauge mainline Dresden - Chemnitz before turning into the Weisseritz valley
