Re: Status of food in Chama..?

During A, C and D work sessions this year, the guys I worked with usually had breakfast at Finas (opened at 6 a.m. daily buit not on some Wednesdays). The coffee shop had some enough breakfast offerings to make it work, but the 7 a.m. opening time was somewhat late for the early birds among us The Box Car, Fosters and the Elkhorn weren't open, at least not for early breakfasts.
We had work session lunches, including tasty ones provided by Joe K. at The Hotel and Shoppes (sp?). I second the comment about the deserts being decadent.
Dinners were more varied. At one point I had a handwritten chart to keep track of which places were open which days for dinner. Fosters closed for dinner too early for our liking. With that and the Box Car were closed some day, The Local proved to be a good alternative. I think The Local wa open five days a week, perhaps the days trains were running..
And it helped that the Chama Station Inn provided its guests a meal or two each week on days when few eateries were open.
As for the High Country, we took it as a sign about three or four years ago that the place was doomed when the operator ditched the firee peanuts in the bar..Too bad. We used to eat at least one dinner there each week.Even though they always had problems managing to serve large groups without dropping orders.
