I can post a brief and incomplete status.
Starting this past winter, a small group of members discussed the possibility of enhancing the current restoration facilities in Antonito. What is there is adequate for light work, but if we were to start working on more extensive projects, such as historic passenger cars, we would need a covered work area. Plus with the possibility of more restoration work being done by the operator in Colorado, we may eventually need to give up "Ft Knox" (the current facility).
A couple of years ago, the Friends did purchase some land RR east of the Commission's property. We've looked at the possibility of puting a small shed type building there and extending a track onto that property.
A proposal was made to the FoCTS board, but there are many unanswered issues. The current "project" is more of an extension of the planning phase; we need to locate the best place for the building, utilities have to be looked at, and understand the zoning requirements, etc. We still need an agreement with the Commission.
Having said all this, we also have been tasked with planning for a similar (but more extensive) facility in Chama. This is something that has been talked about for many years, and hopefully we can get something accomplished soon.
