When making passenger train connections in Portland, there were often a number of hours to while away between trains, and a favorite activity was to head to Washington Park and to take some trips behind that beautiful little 4-4-0. Glancing at my rail travel log, here is an entry for March 29, 1969. I rode the Empire Builder from Pasco to Portland on SP&S 234 miles, then 8 miles behind steam on the Washington Park RR, then Portland-Davis on the Cascade to connect with the California Zephyr at Sacramento for Winnemucca. Great times.
There was some beautiful forest here, which called for a vertical scene
