I have a Canon Power Shot S50. At 5 Mega pixels the quality is really good. To get good shots of something fast moving I first set the camera to the speed setting. This increases the shutter speed and the camera still does the apperature for me. Then I turn Manual Focus off and I prefocus the camera. This way it is an almost instant shot because all the camera has to do it set the apperature value witch is pretty easy for it. And yes sometimes the background is blury if you pan with the locomotive but to me that just gives you the scence that it is moving (A quick sharpen in any photo editor can do a pretty good job on the blur). I hope this helps.
