NYC 3001 is a L-3a Mohawk.

Wikipedia article

Staufer's "New York Central Steam Power Vol 1" has drawings of the L-1, L-2 and L-4 classes, all of which are equipped with combustion chambers so I think we can assume that the L-3's did as well. The combustion chamber on the L-1 is 43" long, the L-2 is 51" long and the L-4 is 63" long.
