This narrow gauge log train scene was probably taken on the Oregon Lumber Co.'s operations down the Middle Fork of the John Day River. The log loads are bound for the Oregon Lumber Co. mill at Bates, which was served by the Sumpter Valley Ry. Sadly, not every photo in our very extensive SVRR Archive collection is "Kinsey" quality, which obviously this one is not. The engine is probably Oregon Lumber Co. Heisler #104, but it could be #100. Note the skid trail seen behind the log train where logs have been brought down the hillside for loading.
