That's not all that you've mis-remembered, Roosso -
Fired up by all the meanderings here, I dug out my old DVD of
'Magnificent Seven' and watched your favorite scene a couple of times.
First of all, the featured loco is NOT lettered as NdeM #268, but FCI #67. Thankfully, she's not all gussied up with Hollyweird make-up, but she does appear to be wearing a fake balloon stack (mostly hidden behind James Coburn in one brief shot at the end of the warm-up, but clearly on display during the winner-take-all main event), and the top of her tender is lined with logs to make her seem older than she really is. I reckon she got off easy compared to what has happened to some narrow-gauge engines north of the border
