Earl, 484 had a squealy whistle in May 1997 when we did those specials for 2 days remember those. We heard it in the 2 trips we shot ahead of the engine to Cumbres. Didn't hear it as much the second day cause it was the rear helper to Cumbres at least.
There is a recording that I believe was by Mobile Fidelity (Brad Miller), I think, that was Steam In Mexico. There was a 2-8-2 on a local that was really shrill sounding, and did switching and so forth then highballed out of town in a blaze of glory. That was quite memorable. I think it is called "Valle de Locomotive Vapor" or something like that. I have it buried with the other LP's.
