The Miller Couplers did not extend under the adjacent car. But the Couplers and the Miller Platform were attached to the body of its car. The Miller Platform had a spring buffer that reduced slack action and helped maintain tension through the couplers. This was to keep one platform from overriding the adjacent platform. If a platform overrode then the body it was attached to was likely to continue into the adjacent car.
