Michael from what I have gathered is the railroad is again cut near Chan Chan with washouts. The Government may be trying to rid themselves of the railroad by offering it to another operator. This all I know is at this time. One thing that might have had a impact on this is the former President of Ecuador was indicted and convicted of bribery and extortion he was the chief backer of the railroad. 240 million dollars to rebuild the railroad from Guayaquil to Quito and part of the San Lorenzo line. More steam is now operational, but they were not friendly to charters and were pushing the expensive Tren Cruzero with 4 day run from both ends. When I went there in 2009 and 2011 the work was being carried out by FEVE of Spain and re-laded from ground up. Chris and T&T has not been able to set up any tours. No other charter groups have had a chance to do anything. Also no rooftop boxcar riding.
