Here are a few of Tom Gildersleeve's photos from the early 1960's -
Durango has changed a lot, and there's not much left of the railroad today. In some places it's hard to even trace the right-of-way.
This first one shows the two engines of an eastbound freight running around their train before coupling up and pulling out of Durango. The smelter in the background was still active on an overcast October 20, 1962

A couple miles farther east, here's train headed to Farmington two years earlier. The caboose has been dropped, and will coast to the rear of its train at Carbon Junction – just visible at the far right
